Nightlife in Lodz

Lodz, with its wide array of clubs, discos and night clubs, is often referred to as the capital of Polish clubbing. The city, especially the most famous Piotrkowska Street, is famous for its non-stop nightlife. The whole street is lined with clubs, bars and night clubs, which have a lot to offer both to regular club-goers and occasional clubbers.

Most clubs are not only pulsating dance floors, offering different kinds of music to cater for all tastes, but also a venue for cultural events. The music played ranges from club dance to jazz. In some of the night clubs the music genre, played by professional DJs, depends on a day of the week.

Port West, situated in Piotrkowska Street, is the largest discotheque in Lodz. It is targeted at young people aged between 18 and 30. As many as 2,000 people can have a good time here listening and dancing to music (mainly house, hip-hop, drum'n'base) played by professional DJs. The club is a two-level building, marine and nautical life in decor, with 5 bars where a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks is served to clubbers.

Situated in the historic villa, once owned by the Stiller family, is the first club in the post-Socialist Poland. Originally, Bagdad Cafe was a jazz club, run by famous local journalists, artists, managers, etc. Nowadays Bagdad Cafe is renowned as a perfect site for clubbers who can entertain themselves listening to reggae, house, funk, breakbeat, electro music. Once a month an exhibition of the local Fine Arts Academy students is held.
A wide variety of alcoholic and soft beverages is served here. Delicious snacks are also on offer!

The club, situated in the post-factory building, consists of two brick-red wall rooms. The larger one is perfect for dancing and drinking as a dance floor for 150-200 people and a large bar are situated here. The club is famous for its regular weekend events: the Karaoke Crazy Train (on Thursdays), Riff the Night (on Fridays) and Saturday Hulanki (all for over 21's!). Come and enjoy yourself dancing to the club music. If not fond of crowds, go to the smaller room where one can have a chat, watch a movie or a concert.

Lodz Kaliska, one of the leaders in the entertainment venues of Lodz, is also regarded as the most avant-garde pub in Poland. Its decor, based on the exhibits connected with the legendary Lodz Kaliska artistic group, and unique atmosphere attract visitors on all days of the week. It is a perfect combination of arts, architecture, music and photography. Film reviews (held at the Kaliska Cinema) and concerts performed by famous musicians are also offered here. A wide variety of alcoholic beverages, unique interior and ambience are among the top advantages of Lodz Kaliska. A must to Lodz new-comers!

Fanaberya is one of the most popular clubs in Lodz visited by a few thousand people every weekend. The English-styled pub with 120 seats boasts extraordinary decor, professional staff, delicious cuisine, tasty drinks and good music. Whiskey is loved by the Fanaberya customers. Some of the most famous Polish singers and bands started their career with Fanaberya performances. There is also a concert hall here (Fanaberya 2) (able to seat 1,200 people) where concerts and theatrical performances of well-known artists are held. Come here to take delight in good music and delicious food!

Siodemki, the oldest club in Lodz, is a well-known entertainment centre of Lodz where cabaret shows, theatrical performances, concerts and discos are held. It has always been loved as a venue perfect for having a beer while listening to good music live or cabaret jokes. Colin Bass, Bill Evans, Urszula Dudziak are among the most famous musicians who have performed here so far. Concerts and cabaret shows are still held here. One can choose from 147 alcohol kinds at Siodemki Club. No one can get bored here. Political Cafe (student meetings with scientists, politicians) and sport event shows are also included in the club offer. On Wednesdays, Thursday and Sundays – admission is free of charge. Iron Horse is the only pub in Lodz which is targeted at motorcyclists. Hence, the decor of the Iron Horse Pub (which must be seen!). However, even if one is not a motorcycle rider or enthusiast, they will also feel comfortable here. What makes the Iron Horse different from other pubs of Lodz is its ambience. However, it is not the only reason for which lots of people, not only motocyclists, visit the pub regularly. The pub attracts its visitors with rock and blues concerts (2-3 times per week), tasty liquors, unique interior decorations, delicious meals and excellent beer. Dekompresja, in operation since 2001, is considered to be one of the most active clubs in Poland. It is mostly renowned as a concert organiser. The club, situated in the refurbished interiors of the former ''Iwanowo'' cinema, has a lot to offer. Apart from live music concerts, there are other events held here like: fashion shows, conferences, exhibition previews, photo sessions, etc. The main attraction is the music played at the Dekompresja Club. The music genre one can enjoy here depends on a day of the week. On Mondays, one can listen to the music selected by the clubbers while drinking a glass of beer (on special offer on that day). Hard Zone Tuesdays and Only Polish Music Wednesdays are also attractive to the club visitors. The Goldies of the 1980s can be heard on Thursdays. Friday is for concerts. Saturday – the Disco Dance Rotation – is one of the most popular events held here. The week ends with Chill Out Sundays. Come and enjoy the music that suits your taste best! Jazzga is the only club in Lodz where one can listen to live JAZZ. Jazz concerts and Tuesday jam sessions are regularly held here. The admission is free of charge, except for concerts given by world-famous jazz performers. The Jazzga club boasts its jazz band composed of Music Academy students, but anyone that feels like playing jazz is welcome. If one gets hungry taking delight in the music played live, one can have a snack offered by the club. The interior, once nominated for the 2000 Best Interior Prize, is dominated by the blue-painted walls with photos of the jazzmen who have performed at the Jazzga so far. If you like jazz and smooth jazz, it is a perfect club for you!
