The present-day Moniuszki Street, running off Piotrkowska Street, used to be called Pasaz Meyera (Meyer's Passage). Originally, the street  was  privately owned, and it was the only private street in Lodz. Its 19th-century elegant neo-Renaissance villas were inhabited by the elite of that time.
