Pilsudskiego Park is the largest park in Lodz and one of the largest parks in Europe. The park, with its adjacent grounds, is often referred to as ''Na Zdrowiu'' Recreational Complex. It consists of Botanical Garden, Zoological Garden, ''Polesie Konstantynowskie'' nature reserve, amusement park, sports grounds, etc. The complex, especially its forest-covered part, abounds in a rich variety of trees and other plants. There are also eight ponds in the park, one of which has an island – home to aquatic birds.
The adjacent Botanical Garden with its picturesque ponds and artificial hills is a perfect site for having a rest. The Zoological Garden, established, in 1938 boasts the largest collection of animal species in Poland. There is also a mini zoo and a playground for children, which makes it attractive to families with kids. Close to the zoo, there is ''Polesie Konstantynowskie'', one of the oldest nature reserves in Poland. This relic of the former Primeval Forest of Lodz (Puszcza Lodzka) is abundant in lush green vegetation. The whole complex is a perfect site for a day trip as no one can be bored here!Opening hours:
Botanical Garden is open from April 1st till October 31st. The opening hours are from 9 a.m. till dusk. Admission: PLN 2.50 (full) / PLN 1.50 (concessions).
Park Matejki - ideal for a stroll
Matejki Park, situated at the junction of Matejki and Narutowicza Streets, was established in 1924. Though small, the park is popular with locals of Lodz. It is the only French-styled garden in Lodz. Its design was modelled on Versailles with a palace in the northern part of the park. However, the project was never completed. The park suffered seriously during World War II. Since then it has been renovated. Nowadays Matejki Park, listed as a registered historic monument, is an attractive site. It is famous for its neatly mowed lawns, rose gardens, circle- and pyramid shaped yew trees, a fountain, alleys and a playground for kids. Perfect for a stroll!Opening hours:
The park is open from 6 a.m. till 10 p.m. (starting from October 1st to March 31st, the park closes at 8 p.m.)
